Midlands Division 3 South East: Peter Flemming had a fine individual game as Banbury Bulls went top with a 33-31 win against Northampton Mens Own.

The full back scored two tries in an 18-point haul, but the hosts almost lost the 28-6 lead they had on the half-hour.

Northampton drew first blood with a penalty, but Bulls hit back when flanker Dave Phipps and centre David Taylor set up Flemming, who added the conversion.

Despite another Northampton penalty, Banbury stretched their lead after McNally barged deep into the visiting 22 before off-loading to Phipps who dived over.

Flemming converted this and the next two tries - winger Adam Walsh's fourth in four games and his own virtuoso second.

Mens Own rallied after Banbury locks Matt McNally and Ali Burbidge were both sin-binned and had pulled it back to 28-18 at the break.

The visitors kicked another penalty as debutant flanker Craig Wyatt and hooker Rory Dymond led Banbury's rearguard action.

Andy Collett's 65th-minute try gave Bulls breathing space again before Northampton's fourth penalty and a converted score reduced the arrears to two.
