Tributes to a "lovely person who had no enemies" have built up on an Oxfordshire roadside verge where a 14-year-old girl died in a road accident.

Chloe Owens, of Haddenham, near Thame, was the 10th young person to be killed in a traffic accident this year after being struck by a car while crossing the Thame bypass near the junction with the Aylesbury Road roundabout on Friday evening.

Chloe Owens The Lord Williams's School pupil was staying with friends in Greenway and was returning to the house after buying food from a nearby Esso service station foodshop when the collision happened.

Police have not named the driver of the grey-coloured Saab saloon that hit Chloe.

Throughout the weekend, a steady stream of schoolfriends left flowers and messages on the grass verge in memory of Chloe.

A note tied to the base of a road signs reads: "RIP Chloe. We love you. We will never forget you." There were also tributes to a "wonderful friend".

Among nearly 20 bunches of flowers was a bouquet from the staff at the Esso service station foodshop where Chloe was known, while her friends told of their shock.

Jade Trafford, 14, from Sedgemore Drive, Thame, said: "Chloe was a lovely girl. Everyone who knew her liked her. She was so friendly and did not have a single enemy."

Nathan Lay, also 14, from Kings Close, Thame, said: "We are devastated and cannot believe she's no longer with us. She was a good friend and everyone liked her."

Another schoolfriend Kirsty Smith, 14, from Cotmore Close, Thame, added: "Everyone I knew liked her and no-one had a bad word to say about her. It's difficult to believe she's no longer with us."

Chloe lived in Marriotts Lane, Haddenham, with her parents and two sisters, Natalie, 18 and Rachel who is 15. The family were too upset to talk about their loss.

The accident on the A4129 junction with the A418 roundabout happened at about 7.20pm and officers closed roads while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

The Thames Valley Police helicopter was called in to take Chloe to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but her injuries were so severe that doctors were unable to save her and she died later.

Police accident investigators spent three hours at the scene trying to establish how the accident happened. Officers have appealed for anyone who may have seen the accident to come forward and get in touch with Pc Alison Brown at the Aylesbury roads policing unit on 0845 8505505.
