Tenants in Oxford's four tower blocks have had a rough time.
For months, they have had to endure homeless people breaking in to sleep rough in the lobbies and families have had to pick their way through drug needles and other mess as they go about their daily business.
Security cameras would have been one answer, but these have been ruled out on the grounds of cost.
Thankfully, the council is prepared to explore other solutions and has come up with a plan to employ doormen -- or concierges -- at each of the four tower blocks in the city.
They would control access 24 hours a day and provide some welcome reassurance to the residents there.
It is clear that security in the towers needs to be tightened, so councillors should do all they can to bring this idea to fruition.
There will be a cost, but it should be borne by the city.
After all, you cannot put a price on peace of mind.
