An Oxfordshire town will be truly in the pink tomorrow (October 1) when charity fundraisers turn the spotlight on breast cancer research.

Witney in the Pink Day has become an annual and popular event in the town.

The town's fundraising team of the Harwell-based charity, Against Breast Cancer, has spent months planning and organising the event -- which will turn Witney into a sea of pink.

The team is hoping to top the £4,000 raised at last year's Pink Day, with lots of fun in the town centre.

Collectors, many in fancy dress, will be shaking tins, there will be entertainment from dancers, including the Hazazz belly dancers, Eynsham Cowboys, Mason's Apron morris dancers and Viva Salsa, and stalls selling Christmas gifts, hand-made jewellery, cakes and bric-a-brac.

A major fundraiser is a Big Pink Balloon Race when people will be invited to buy a balloon, with the one going the furthest winning a prize of £100 Marks & Spencer vouchers donated by Lloyds TSB, Witney.

Witney in the Pink Day will be opened at 10am by BBC Radio Oxford presenter Alison Booker who is now fully recovered from her own battle with breast cancer. She will then judge the best decorated shop window competition.

Shops, pubs and businesses have received pink balloons and ribbon so that they can get into the spirit of the day by decorating their premises.

They have also been asked to hold their own collections or events such as dress-down days, with proceeds going to ABC.

Witney Team chairman Jeanne Chattoe said: "Our Pink Days have been fantastic in the past -- and this one promises to be even better."
