LUCY Brown added another title to her rapidly-increasing trophy cabinet when she won the under 12 crown at the Sunday Telegraph Centre Parcs Junior Grand Prix.

But there was disappointment for Abingdon's Michael Watkins in the boys event, after he was beaten in the semi-finals.

Brown, from Elsfield, Oxford, showed great courage to claim victory - proving too strong for a player who had beaten her 6-0, 6-1 the previous day.

The top six players in the country were seeded in two round-robin groups on the Saturday, with the top two progressing through to the semi-finals.

Brown was made to work in her first match, before beating Laura Hornsby 7-5, 6-2.

But she was no match for Hannah Moran in the second, going down 6-0, 6-1.

However, her earlier success booked her a place in the last four.

The following day she survived a titanic struggle against Hannah Martin- Merchant.

Despite cruising to the first set 6-1, Brown was beaten 6-4 in the second.

The match was then decided by a tie-break - the first to ten points - and Brown's fighting qualities showed through as she ran out a 10-6 winner.

In the final, she came up against Moran - and turned the formbook on its head.

A tight first set went the way of the Esporta Club member in a tense tie-break, Brown winning it 11-9.

However, the light was fading, and there was little help to both players when they switched the floodlights on, only to find that half were working.

Both players were told that they had to carry on playing regardless, and it was Brown who adjusted the quicker, easing to a 6-1 victory in the second set to seal her success.

Watkins won both his group matches to stroll into the semi-finals on a high.

However, he then came up against an inspired Andrew Bettles, who proved too strong and ran out a 6-1, 6-4 winner.

Watkins was then denied the chance to play the 3-4 place play-off when his opponent was taken to hospital after suffering a blow to his head between matches.
