Your comment on the county council's commitment to free on-street parking in Oxford (Oxford Mail, September 27) is woefully inaccurate.
The £700,000 that will be lost from the surplus in the on street parking account is money that could only be spent on transport issues.
This is laid down in law and affects every local authority across the land.
It is therefore spurious to juxtapose this £700,000 with stories about increases in care charges.
You are fully within your rights to comment on decisions taken by the county council.
However, I would ask you to factor in the legal restrictions under which we operate. If your remarks do not have any basis in reality and fact, they are worthless.
David Robertson (Councillor), Cabinet Member for Transport, Oxfordshire County Council
