An Oxfordshire beauty therapist has hit the bullseye after gaining second place in the world air rifle championships.
Beauty therapist Laura Clark
Laura Clark, 19, from Stable Road, Bicester -- who is the only woman in the Otmoor Field Target Club -- was crowned the second best female in the world at the competition in Weston-on-the-Green.
Despite battling gland- ular fever for four months earlier this year, which meant she could not practise her shooting, Miss Clark beat opponents from the USA, Russia, Belgium and Lithuania.
The three-day event, which was held in Weston woods last weekend, saw competitors shooting at more than 150 targets.
Former Cooper School pupil Miss Clark said: "I am very, very pleased. It's quite rare for women to take up this sport, but it's nice to do something different. When I say I'm a beauty therapist some of the men get quite confused! It's nice to actually break those barriers."
Miss Clark said air rifle shooting was something more women should try.
She said: "It's definitely worth having a go. You can really improve and it's a real achievement. It's nice to get rid of the stereo- types."
Her father John Clark, who is also club treasurer, said: "We are very proud of Laura, but not surprised."
