Southern Counties North: Nick Sevier scored 23 points as Grove maintained their 100 per cent record with a 36-7 win at Bletchley.

The full back, who has taken over kicking duties from the departed Richard Williams, bagged four penalties, three conversions and a try for a fine individual haul.

Grove were missing several first team regulars due to injury, but still proved too strong.

Bletchley lost one of their centres right from the kick-off due to falling badly following a tackle as he collected the ball.

But it was they who exerted the early pressure, although Grove produced some smart running moves.

Sevier's long-range penalty opened the scoring and centre Jamie Burns was unlucky not to add a try.

The now continuous Grove pressure yielded another penalty, which Sevier again kicked.

Flanker Adam Hastings scored the first try on 20 minutes after fly half Alan Awcock had neatly chipped the ball through.

Sevier's conversion made it 13-0, but following a wayward cross field kick Bletchley were able to push right up to the visitors tryline and score in the corner.

This was converted before Sevier did the same to Awcock's marvellous individual try.

Grove's play in the second half could not match their marvellous performance before the break.

But they remained confident throughout and went further ahead when Sevier burst through to score and converted from the touchline.

Fine performances followed from new flanker Justin Pakes and prop Clint Dearmer, but it was Awcock who put the icing on the cake with a superb drop goal out of nothing.

Two further penalties were converted by Sevier, so Grove were able to run out worthy winners.

Witney slipped to a second successive league defeat, losing 25-7 at home to Redingensians.

Club spokesman Dave Gardner said: "It was Redingensians who were up for a feast, while Witney were peckish.

"Having said that, the visitors were somewhat flattered as the two sides were more evenly matched than the score suggests."

Henry Lamb was Witney's only scorer, converting his own try.

With last week's cup reverse Witney have now racked up three successive defeats.

Chipping Norton's entertaining 33-28 home win against Amersham & Chiltern saw them leap above the Buckinghamshire club to sixth in the table.
