What on earth do the Tories think they are playing at?
You reported that scrapping evening and Sunday car parking fees in the city centre would cost the county transport department up to £700,000 (Oxford Mail, September 19).
The next day, you reported the anguish of parents whose children's bus fares have almost doubled, thanks to the council increasing concessionary charges to claw back a £564,000 budget overspend.
Surely any responsible person in charge of the county's transport system would balance their books more sensibly?
Getting children to school (and reducing the school run by car) must surely be more important than making it cheaper for drivers to access the city by car?
These decisions by the county council's transport chiefs are crass and, frankly, puerile.
