FA Cup - Braintree Town 2, Didcot Town 0: Didcot's FA Cup dreams were shattered as they went out at Ryman League Premier Division outfit Braintree Town on Saturday.
There was little to choose between the sides in the second qualifying round tie for long periods, but in the end Braintree's superior class and fitness told.
Didcot created the first chance when Ian Concannon's chip had goalkeeper Nick Morgan backpedalling as it sailed inches over the crossbar.
Goalkeeper Chris Webb then came to Didcot's rescue, turning Carl Griffiths's shot to safety.
Concannon had an effort turned over by Morgan, before Braintree carved out three good chances in as many minutes.
Griffiths saw his shot just drift wide of the left-hand upright, defender Chris Wild headed over from six yards and Eugene Ofori was also off target with a header from an Alex Revell cross.
Didcot were looking for the half-time break after this barrage, but there was still time for Griffiths to fire a 20-yard drive inches over the bar.
Revell headed another opportunity over early in the second half, before the Railwaymen almost stunned their hosts when Paul Powell's drive brought a fingertip save out of Morgan.
Braintree winger Louis Riddle forced a decent save from Webb, before supplying the cross for the opening goal in the 69th minute, defender Paul Lorraine sliding the ball in from six yards.
Revell hit the outside of a post and Webb made a smart save from Ofori.
With Didcot pressing forward, Braintree wrapped up victory in the last minute when Revell beat Webb to a long punt forward, and and slotted home.
Didcot Tn: Webb, Beckett, Bedwell, Campbell, Green (Goodall 75), Parrott, Jack (Ward 65), Heapy, Concannon, Beavon, Powell (Jones 86).
Attendance: 306.
