As residents of New Osney in Oxford, we feel that the proposed public crossing at Osney Lock (Oxford Mail, September 15) is an excellent idea for a number of reasons.
It will provide a different and much-needed alternative way into town for cyclists from the whole of west Oxford. They face real danger going under the railway bridge.
It will also allow those out for a stroll to take circular walks rather than retracing their steps.
Having people about -- dog walkers, joggers, cyclists and so on -- will make the area more secure for local residents and boat owners, apart from any additional security measures, such as new fences, which could be provided.
