The Regent cinema's doors at Wantage close for the last time and the townsfolk go on their way, muttering about how it shouldn't be allowed to happen (Oxford Mail, September 8).
You would think someone had told them that the electricity was going to be turned off.
It is not a public amenity, it is a business and like all businesses, it needs to make a profit to survive.
If all the people who so passionately spoke out about this in the past had had the courage of their convictions and been a little more active in their support and say, actually used the place, it might still be open.
Signatures on petitions are all very well but they don't pay the bills. As you can tell, I am not happy either.
I would like to clarify that I first worked at the Regent from 1989-1992 and again from earlier this year, not, as stated, from 1990.
