I hope your readers read the whole of your stories from top to bottom. If they read only the headline, Council locks out Old Gaol plan (Oxford Mail, September 12), followed by the first paragraph, which claims that Oxfordshire County Council has "thwarted" a scheme, they will be misled.
The rest of the story accurately explains why the scheme wasn't possible from both the county and district councils' perspective.
How the headline and first paragraph could have been written, given the context that the rest of the piece sets, is a bit of a mystery.
The county council has not "thwarted" anything. This scheme will not go ahead because of cost, and the county and district councils agree on that. We are both committed to finding an alternative. JOHN JACKSON, Director for Resources, Oxfordshire County Council
