Thank you for your article on the proposed cuts to the work of the Oxfordshire Learning Disability Trust (Oxford Mail, September 8).
It seems bizarre that an organisation which is so clearly a centre of excellence and model of user participation, rather than being celebrated, should be penalised to resolve financial shortcomings elsewhere.
However well cuts are managed, in a relatively small and financially efficient organisation devoted to front line support, they are bound to affect service users disproportionately.
Is there no alternative other than to additionally burden learning disabled people and their families who are such valued but vulnerable members of our community?
Is it not possible to protect and promote a remarkable Oxfordshire success story and, if not, does this raise the question at strategic and governmental level about the wisdom of holding such a wide range of services and trusts in the same funding pool? ROMY BRIANT, Canterbury Road, Oxford
