The refuse lorry which crashed into the house at Teal Close A refuse lorry reversed too far down a driveway and smashed into a house in Grove yesterday morning.

The rubbish truck, operated by district council contractors Cleanaway, hit the house in Teal Close, damaging tiles on the roof of the porch.

No-one was hurt in the incident, which took place at about 8.30am.

Vicky Lawrence, 27, who lives on Teal Close, said: "My husband heard talking outside this morning, we looked out and saw what had happened.

"It does seem a bit strange, it had to go a fair way up the driveway to hit the house.

"The close is a very tight spot to turn around in.

"There are a lot of people with more than a couple of cars parked on the road."

Angelina Conway-Lee, 20, of Teal Close, said: "It is a very awkward street to get in and out of. The recycle guys and bin men are usually brilliant, this is a one-off."

Another neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said although she had not seen the incident, she felt sorry for the owners of the house.

The owner himself told the Oxford Mail he had had enough trauma for one day and did not wish to comment.

Police and district council officers were called out to the incident.

Council spokesman Helen Bishop said: "We are concerned about the incident, although at the moment it is too early to say what happened.

"An investigation will be opened by Cleanaway and when it is concluded we will be talking to them about the outcome.

"We sent building control officers to check the damage and they found no major structural damage -- thankfully it is only cosmetic damage."

A spokesman from Cleanaway said: "The police and Cleanaway are undertaking investigations and are unable to comment further until they are concluded."
