OXFORD Academy's bid for Conference League honours were given a boost a with a last-gasp 46-44 victory over Wimbledon at the Stadium last night.
But, that was despite the performance of the referee Ronnie Allan, who failed to get to grips with the uncomprising veteran rider Buzz Burrows.
The hard riding of Burrows, who who used to ride for the Cheetahs some years ago, caused plenty of booing from the terraces, until he finally got excluded for bringing down Craig Branney in the re-run of heat 13.
In the original race, Oxford's Chris MIlls could easily have become the victim.
It didn't end there. With Oxford fighting for a 5-1 in the last heat to win the meeting, Burrows again was the culprit as he sent Mills flying into Craig Branney who crashed heavily.
Allan ordered all four riders back for the restart to the astonishment of the Oxford
fans, but justice was done as Branney and Mills pulled off a fantastic 5-1 to land the spoils.
