James Styring (On Yer Bike, September 6) forgot to mention that were it not for inventions made by the builders/developers of bicycles, the motor car would not have been able to develop the chain (final drive) and the pneumatic tyre, to name just two.
One thing that constantly amazes me in the newspaper columns and discussions on the radio is the passionate anti-cycle feeling expressed by correspondents -- and the vitriolic anti-car sentiments expressed by cycle riders in return (I do not refer to Mr Styring, who is quite restrained).
Why should these almost rabid emotions exist?
After all, every cycle on the road means that cars can move a little more freely.
