OXFORD City's Steve Male wrapped up the Mota-vation road race series title after a thrilling tussle in the final round in Oxford.
A record field brought an exciting finish as Male edged out Vale of Aylesbury's Paul Gregory over the four-mile course to secure the overall men's championship.
Gregory, Male and White Horse Harrier Owain Bristow broke away from the leading group as they passed through Marston village on the outward leg.
But then Gregory led Male, with Bristow falling back as they sped down the northern bypass.
Gregory held his lead until the last quarter mile, when Male accelerated away to win by six seconds.
Senior men's champion Garry Harris was pushed down to fifth place by Chris Riley and Steve Overton.
Gregory's second place denied Bryan Vaughan (Woodstock Harriers) a fifth successive Vet 50 win, although Vaughan had already secured his age group title, as had Paul Treviss in the Vet 60 category.
Under 17 runner John Ewbank again displayed his promise by rising to 16th in a strong field.
Consistency brought Woodstock the team championship, with a narrow win over Oxford City in the final round.
Witney Nicola Gomm secured her fourth Vet 35 ladies' win and the overall ladies' series victory.
Together with Elyssia Ridley and Sally Pitts, she brought team victory and the J A Pye Ladies' Challenge Plate to Witney, displacing Headington from the pinnacle that they have occupied for many years.
Headington's Diane Moore continued to dominate the senior ladies' division, while Oxford City's Gwynneth Hueter and Eynsham's Kate Williamson were again the V45 and V55 race leaders and series winners.
The 19th season of the Mota-vation Series will start on Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Charlton-on-Otmoor.
Entry forms will be available on www.kidlington running. org.uk in the spring.
