TEENAGE money-makers from two Oxford schools have tipped their way into the quarter finals of a top investment competition.
Teams from Magdalen College School and Matthew Arnold School were among the 25 best out of 1,400 who entered an investment competition run by Proshare, an organisation that promotes share ownership.
The competition was backed by the London Stock Exchange, the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE), and Barclays Stockbrokers.
The students invested an imaginary £50,000 each in portfolios of companies and also accepted a LIFFE challenge involving decisions about buying and selling futures and options.
The two Oxford schools will compete in the regional semi-finals in March and the top five semi-finalists will take part in the final in April.
Prizes for finalists include computer systems and cash.
Matthew Arnold School business studies teacher Barbara Chillman said: "The value of our shares and options increased 74 per cent in six weeks. The team chose them by looking at the past record of the shares and drawing graphs."
