AN ARGENTINE international rugby player was tackled by the law after being caught speeeding in his car at 107.5mph, near Bicester.
Full-back Luis Ignacio Criscuolo, from Buenos Aires, pleaded guilty to speeding before Bicester magistrates. He said he forgot the speedometer reading was in miles per hour and thought it was kilometres per hour - the system used in Argentina.
Christian Horne, prosecuting, said traffic police clocked him travelling well over the 70mph speed limit in a Rover 400 on the M40 on January 25.
Mr Criscuolo, a solicitor studying a post-graduate course in commercial law at Birmingham University who represented himself in court, said: "Back home I know when my car is going too fast because it starts making a lot of noise, but the Rover car was very quiet. It was also hard to judge my speed because there was no-one else on the road at the time."
Mr Criscuolo has been capped eight times by his country.
Magistrates adjourned the case until March 4 because the defendant had driven down from Birmingham on his own.
