TWO Oxford students stand to win £1m after they bet on becoming Prime Minister by the year 2038.

Brookes University undergraduates Justin Tomlinson and Chris Kelly each staked £50 at odds of 10,000-1 on making it to Number 10 within 40 years.

The politics-mad pair stand to collect £500,000 each from bookies William Hill if they win the Premiership race.

Business undergraduate Justin, 21, said: "The Tories may appear down, but there will be a big revival for them in the millennium. I've got my work cut out, but who says I won't make it to Number 10 by the time I'm 60?"

The two friends have launched their political careers by joining the Conservative Society at Brookes University and are selling T-shirts with the logo 'Tory Boy' to raise funds. History and politics student Chris, 19, said he got hooked on the idea of becoming PM after seeing Margaret Thatcher on TV at the age of six.

"Even at that age I sensed her strong leadership qualities," he said.

He added: "My aim is to join my father's truck business and make my fortune. Then I would concentrate on becoming a politician.

"If Justin becomes PM first, I'd be the Home Secretary.

William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said it was "conceivable" that the two students would win. He added: "We will be quite happy to pay out if it becomes a case of Yes, Prime Minister."
