BANBURY referee Dermot Gallagher was today reported to have been given a one-match suspension by the Football Association following his 'poor' handling of a top Premiership match.
The FIFA referee, who is also commercial manager at Witney Town, has been handed the ban for his performance in Arsenal's 2-0 defeat of Chelsea on February 8.
Gallagher has been withdrawn from this Saturday's game between Blackburn and Leicester because his handling of the Highbury match wasn't up to Premier League standard.
Although Gallagher booked seven players - three from Arsenal and four from Chelsea - the match observer felt he should have taken even sterner action with some incidents.
These included the early challenge by Arsenal defender Steve Bould on Gianluca Vialli which many saw as a professional foul. But instead of sending Bould off, Gallagher only booked him.
Gallagher declined to comment on the suspension.
