A CAT went up the wall and through the roof at a vet's - after taking one look at the dentist's chair.

The owners put out an SOS for the moggy when the vet told them: "Your cat's gone through the roof - literally."

Jane Castle, of Grange Court, Botley, Oxford, went to collect Sam, the Siamese cat, with her four-year-old daughter Aimee.

But they couldn't believe their ears when a vet at Beaumont Veterinary Hospital, Botley Road, told them that Sam had escaped.

They were told that mischievous moggy Sam:

Went WILD after dental treatment

SCRAMBLED to the top of a wall

VANISHED through a perspex roof.

The surgery staff immediately carried out a delivery of leaflets to nearby homes to try to find him.

But Mrs Castle, 35, a nurse at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital, said her daughter was devastated.

"We had taken both our Siamese cats to the vet's for dental treatment. My six -year- old son's cat was there, but Aimee's had gone. It only sank in when she got back home and there have been a lot of tears. Sam is such a placid cat, even when we've taken him for injections. But You would think that a vets would be prepared if a cat becomes frightened. I'm very angry. We have been offered compensation, but we want Sam back."

Vet John Trethewey said: "This has never happened to me before in 36 years. The cat had been picked up by a nurse and suddenly clawed its way out of her grip. It rushed into the next room and got into the car park through the roof.""The perspex roof had been inspected not long ago when we redecorated. It was fine then."

Sam, an eight-year-old Lilac Point Siamese, is white with caramel tips on its ears and feet.
