A 91-year-old Grove pensioner lost £30 cash to a woman trickster claiming to be a council employee.
The bogus official called at the OAP's bungalow home in Oxford Lane claiming that the local council had cash to give away to deserving cases and asked the woman what money she had.
The elderly woman admitted to having cash hidden behind a wardrobe and showed the impostor the hiding place for her savings. The intruder, who had a local accent and was aged between 30 and 40, then asked for a coffee.
While the pensioner's back was turned, the woman, who was wearing a dark brown coat and woolly hat, disappeared with the cash.
Anyone who may have answered the door to a woman fitting her description is asked to contact Dc Mick Allport on 01235 776000.
