A tiny hedgehog is being cared for by animal rescuer Penny Little at her Little Foxes sanctuary in Great Haseley.
She survived her nest being destroyed when a sycamore in a Sandford garden blew down and the roots churned up her home. Then she got over being abandoned by her mum and being taken into care.
Penny said: "She is battling away but her chances are not spectacularly good. She was newborn and is being fed on a milk substitute so every day she keeps going is a bonus. If she survives she will be put back into the wild."
Penny was full of praise for the woman who rescued the hedgehog.
"As an anti-hunt activist I am often in despair at the cruelty people inflict on animals. But this lady and those like her bring back one's faith in human nature. The tree had come down in her garden and damaged a conservatory roof. But while still in shock she rescued the mother and two babies and took them to vets, who then phoned me."
The other baby - a male - died and the mum has been released back into the wild.
