Tytus, the Rottweiler guard dog which let thieves take him away with the loot, has disappeared into thin air - and his owners are devastated.

Despite a £1,000 reward for his return, nothing has been heard of the six-year-old dog - described as a big softy - since the thefts last month.

His owner, Tracey Johnson, of Chalgrove, said: "He seems to have disappeared into thin air.

"We are all devastated.

"We hoped he would be returned especially when the thieves found he wasn't house-trained, but we have heard nothing.

"We are still hoping against hope that he will be returned.

"I find I have to keep on thinking he's OK somewhere - the heart still says he might be alive but the head is pretty sure we won't see him again."

Tytus was always left in the former garage business run by Dale Johnson, 36, at Milton Common.

Mrs Johnson, 34, said when the thieves broke in they must have quietened the dog by talking to him gently.

"He's a big softy and, if they fed him as well, he would just have followed them around," she said.

They stole tools of all kinds, a motocross motorbike, a 198 ex-works Kawasaki bike, and a £3,000 steam cleaner.

But it was Tytus who really mattered.

Mrs Johnson said: "We can replace tools but Tytus cannot be replaced.

"Our two children Stacie and Tiffany still miss him dreadfully."

Thame police are still investigating the theft.
