Pavements in front of Debenhams' new revamped Oxford store are likely to be widened as part of improvements costing £125,000.
Debenhams have been given planning permission to refurbish its Magdalen Street store and it is expected to open with a new layout in October.
Discussions are now taking place with the city council's highways and traffic committee about how best to widen the footway in Magdalen Street and George Street, around the develop- ment.
Council officers believe the refurbishment of the store could lead to more customers and recommend that the work should go ahead.
The matter is being discussed by councillors at the highways and traffic committee meeting on Thursday.
