A businessman feared for his baby son when two robbers roared up on a 600cc motorbike and grabbed a bag containing more than £1,000.

The thieves, both wearing crash helmets, swooped in broad daylight as Vito Logozzi was taking cash to a bank in Woodstock yesterday afternoon.

Mr Logozzi, landlord of the Fox inn, Middle Barton, had parked his car near Barclays Bank in Park Street at 3.50pm and was about to cross the road to the bank. He had his sixth-month-old son in one arm and the cash in the other when the robbers appeared and grabbed the bag which contained cash and cheques.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "He was very shaken up and very concerned for the welfare of his son, although the target was clearly the money."

Both the riders were wearing black helmets with red flashes on the side.

Mr Logozzi and his son were unhurt. Police who have appealed for witnesses to contact Kidlington CID on 01865 266000 are anxious to trace the owner of a white van which was overtaken by the motorbike at the time of the raid.

The rider had a blue reflective tint on his visor.

Det Con Steve Honey said: "I think it was probably a well-planned offence.

"It is not clear how they knew the businessman was taking cash to the bank at that time. It was not a regular occurrence."

It was the second robbery in Woodstock within a week. A man has been charged with robbery following a raid on a florist in the town on Saturday.
