Landlord Vito Logozzi told today of his relief that his baby son escaped unhurt after an encounter with bandit bikers.

Shocked Mr Logozzi, 34, who runs the Fox Inn, Middle Barton, was carrying his six-month-old son, Vincenzo, when the robbers drew up on a powerful motorbike and grabbed more than £1,000.

The landlord had parked his car in Park Street, Woodstock, at 3.50pm on Tuesday afternoon to take the money and cheques in a cash bag to Barclays Bank.

A black powerful motorbike roared up with bike and passenger, who snatched the cash and sped off.

Mr Logozzi, who is married to Abby, 28, said: "I was gobsmacked that it happened to me. I think they were looking for somebody vulnerable and because I had a child I was targeted. "I could not fight back, it was out of my hands. The baby would have ended up on solid Tarmac for the sake of catching these people. Life is more important than money."

"My son was too young to know what was happening. It was a relief that nothing else happened."

The motorcyclists had identical black helmets with red flashes on the back.

Det Con Steve Honey, of Kidlington CID, said: "It is not clear at this stage how they knew the businessman was taking the cash to the bank on this day and this time.

"It is not a regular occurrence.

"We want to hear from any witnesses who saw the motorcycle in or around Woodstock on Tuesday afternoon.

"We understand a white van was cut up by the motorcycle in Woodstock and the driver may be able to help."

Following the snatch the robbers made off past the town hall towards the main road from Oxford to Chipping Norton.
