Rapist adrian State was jailed for three years after he was convicted of forcing a woman to have sex with him in her own home.

State, 43, of Windrush Avenue, Witney, was given the prison term by Judge Anthony King at Oxford Crown Court yesterday after a jury found him guilty of the offence.

The court heard his attack took place last October, the morning after the 44-year-old woman - who cannot be named - let him sleep the night when he babysat her daughter.

Nigel Daly, prosecuting, said State kept fondling the woman, at one stage forcing his hand down her leggings while she was holding her daughter, and pestered her for sex.

She refused, but agreed to perform a sex act on him when he promised her he would leave. He accused her of not doing the act properly and took her over his knee and smacked her bottom.

Then he forced her into having sex with him and left afterwards.

State denied the rape charge. He said the woman agreed to have sex the night before and again in the morning.

He denied smacking her.

When, under cross-examination, Mr Daly accused him of enjoying dominating women, State denied it.

"No I do not," he said. "The one giving the orders tended to be her.

"She did not make it clear she did not want sex, quite the contrary. I am telling the truth, my conscience is clear."

Judge King told him: "What you did was inexcusable. The only sentence I can pass is imprisonment. There is no other proper way of dealing with you."
