traffic engineers say major roadworks on Oxford's Botley Road - which have caused long delays - should be finished on time.

Oxfordshire County Council engineers expect the work to be completed on schedule in September.

But they warned motorists to expect more delays, as work has begun on the Botley Road and Ferry Hinksey Road junction.

Temporary traffic lights are in place there and are manually operated.

The road will be completely closed for a second night on August 22, between 8pm and midnight, to build a new footbridge at St Frideswide's Bridge.

It was also closed overnight on August 3 to allow Railtrack's footbridge from the railway station to the new car park in Becket Street to be put in place.

Work on Osney Bridge is finished and the new pedestrian crossing at the White House pub, opposite Mill Street, should be working by mid-August.

Keith Welham, of the council's highways department, said: "Drivers themselves can do much to ease the problems, for example car sharing, using the Park and Ride service, which has a bus priority lane, or cycling and walking to work."
