OXFORD United hope to have Steve Davis and Andy Thomson back again after injury to face Wolves in tomorrow's all-ticket Division 1 game at the Manor Ground.
Davis (Achilles) and Thomson (ankle) missed the 3-2 Worthington Cup win at Luton in midweek, but both are expected to return as boss Malcolm Shotton reverts to the 4-4-2 system he used at Bristol City last Saturday.
"They both trained yesterday," Shotton said. "Andy could possibly have played on Tuesday, but it wasn't worth risking it for the sake of one match."
United's manager will not reveal his line-up for this first home game of the season until shortly before kick-off.
"The players that are available will dictate what system I use," he said. "But I could change my mind on Saturday morning, either with the system or the personnel, if I don't think it's right in my own mind, just as I did at Manchester City." Wolves have never won at Oxford and two of their last three visits have resulted in 4-0 and 3-0 hidings, last season's match, which was shown live on Sky, memorable for a virtuoso performance from two-goal Joey Beauchamp.
"Joey's had a quietish pre-season and start to the season but, as with a few of the players, he's just started coming into his own," said Shotton.
"Wolves are going to be one of the stronger sides to play against but then it could be one of 12-15 clubs who get promotion.
"This year could be the hardest first division there's ever been. The three who came down from the Premier are all looking to bounce back and then you've got Wolves, Birmingham, Sheffield United, Sunderland, Ipswich . . . the list goes on and on.
"It'll be a good game to play in and hopefully a good game for the spectators."
Wolves, who include ex-United man Paul Simpson, are still awaiting international clearance for former Valencia captain Fernando.
