BANBURY Borough's Alan Prew, Greg Moon and Les Gillett went storming on in the English Bowling Association Championships at Worthing yesterday.
Following on their success in the fours, the three moved into the triples and had two easy victories.
There were no overnight celebration hangovers for Boro who got six shots on the third end of the opening round match against Barton-Le-Clay (Beds), skipped by Alan Butler.
After 11 ends, they led 18-5 and after they had scored 2, 5, 1, 5 starting on the 13th, the Bedfordshire champions conceded defeat at 31-5.
In the second round, the Banbury club triumphed 19-11 over Bridgwater BCL of Somerset. On yesterday's form, they must be thinking they can go on and win the triples and then next week Prew and Gillett have the pairs and Gillett could complete a full house in the singles.
Martin Crellin, David Wedge and Norman Wallace of Summertown got off to a 3, 1, 3 start against their first-round opponents Bank House Hotel (Worcestershire) skipped by international Rob Stanley and went on to win 14-12.
In the second round, Summertown were also against opposition from Somerset and triumphed 18-12 over Imperial.
This was a crawl over nearly four hours. It was plain sailing for Crellin, Wedge and Wallace when they led 8-1 at five ends and, after a three on the tenth, by 12-4.
Imperial levelled at 12-12 but the Oxford team finished off by scoring three consecutive twos to win 18-12. On the 17th end Crellin had this three bowls all within six inches of the jack.
Summertown now play Bourneville (Warwickshire) while Banbury Borough play Whitehaven (Cumbria).
