Horrified Pete Dalton was rescued by firefighters after being kept captive in his bedroom by wasps.
Pete's ordeal began at his home in Blackbird Leys Road, Oxford, when he went to the loo in the early hours of the morning.
"As I pulled open the bedroom door I heard a lot of buzzing," said the 32-year-old.
"Because I live on my own I always leave the landing light on and as I opened the door there were loads of wasps around the loft hatch.
"I shut the door and went and sat on the bed and thought, 'What do I do now?'
"I decided it was a choice of trying to get downstairs or get out of the bedroom window, but it was too high up. I didn't want to go downstairs."
Luckily for Pete, he heard a neighbour letting her dogs out and shouted for help. She rang the emergency services.
"They sent the firemen with a ladder so I could climb out of the window. I felt a bit foolish but they said it was the right thing to do.
"There were certainly enough wasps to scare me."
He added that his phobia arose from being stung badly as a baby.
Council environmental health officers have now removed the wasps.
