Northampton Res 2, Oxford Utd Res 0
UNITED Reserves went down to a disappointing Avon Insurance Combination defeat at Northampton last night, conceding goals at a free-kick and to a hotly-disputed penalty.
After 20 minutes, Chris Lee got across Brian Wilsterman to head in a free-kick following a foul outside the area. Soon after, Wilsterman went off injured.
Andy Thomson missed a glorious chance when he had a one-on-one with the keeper and missed the target.
The Cobblers added a second through Roy Hunter from the penalty spot ten minutes into the second half although United were adamant that Jon Shepheard won the ball when he slid in to make a tackle just inside the box. The decision was given by the linesman, although the referee, facing the incident, was ready to wave play on.
United Res: Simms, Rose, Marsh, Wright, Coll, Wilsterman (J Shepheard 22), Smith, Hill, Thomson, Banger (Folland 65), Cook (Richards 65).
