THE loss of the last four ends cost ten shots and defeat for West Witney duo Fred Roberts and Glyn Coggon in the second round of the English Bowling Association pairs at Worthing yesterday.
They started with a three against their Lincoln opponents but, from 10-8 ahead at 11 ends, they began to falter.
Roberts, a substitute for Harry Williams, and Coggon got a four on the 16th end to lead 15-14 but the match slipped away in a 24-15 defeat at 20 ends.
The West Witney pair led 11-0 in their opening match against Northumberland opponents which helped them to a 20-18 success.
It was back to winning ways for Alan Prew and Les Gillett, members of the Banbury Borough club.
It took them a long time to get on top of David Blackmore and Alan McGuinness of Whitehaven, but they sealed a 23-12 first round win after 20 ends.
Prew and Gillett then lost five shots over the first three ends against Surrey's Graham Duvergier and Mark Overington, but rallied to lead 18-7 ahead after 12 ends.
They the dropped four shots at the next end, but hit back to win 24-13 and clinch a match against David Smith and Ray Cheater from Portsmouth.
