A foreign student has been attacked in Witney town centre.

The Spanish 19-year-old man was with five friends on The Leys, at the rear of St Mary's Church, at 9pm on Friday, when he was attacked by three youths.

Sgt Chris Tarrant, of Witney Police, said: "He received a bruise on the head and a cut lip and was obviously very shaken and shocked. It is an extremely rare occurrence in Witney."

The teenager did not need treatment and nothing was stolen during the attack.

The Spanish youngsters are on an exchange visit to the town.

The offenders were seen sitting on a wall and drinking from cans just before the assault.

The attackers are described as aged 16-20 and all fair-haired. The tallest was 5ft 8in, one was wearing a baseball cap, one had a horizontally striped sports shirt and another had a 'wedge' haircut.
