FIVE Oxford Cavaliers players have been called up for the Rugby League Conference squad.

Skipper and scrum half Simon Hill, centre Paul Daly and forwards John Williams, Darrell Griffin and Graham Crane are named in a 22-man squad for the games against the North East League at Chester on Sunday, and against the Combined Services at Portsmouth on September 5.

After the two matches, Griffin is expected to sign for the London Broncos after impressing in a recent trial with the Super League club.

He also shone as London Schools Under 17s beat Yorkshire champions Airedale High School, from Castleford, 32-10.

Meanwhile, Hill has joined Warrington outfit Woolston Rovers for the National Winter Conference League season.

Cavaliers are looking to the future by running a level 2 course for coaches - with particular emphasis on schoolteachers - at their Marston Ferry Road base next month.

The sessions, which will be taken by Cavaliers director of coaching Paul Johnstone are on September 19 and 20 (9am-4pm), September 23 (7-9.30pm) and September 27 (9am-4pm). Details from Cavaliers development officer Daryn Reeds on 0958 713577.
