Oxford Cheetahs 47,
Belle Vue Aces 43IT took Jason Crump five rides to get his act together - but in the end he became Gresham Oxford Cheetahs' saviour as yet another cracking Elite League speedway meeting went to a last-heat decider at the Stadium last night.
England star Paul Hurry was in brilliant form, winning three of his first four races to keep Cheetahs in the hunt as the Aces didn't give an inch in a classic battle.
Joe Screen, Ronnie Correy and Jason Lyons carried the fight to Cheetahs and at one time they looked the favourites to come out on top.
Todd Wiltshire and Steve Johnston had quiet nights, but Wiltshire came good in heat 14 as he and Schofield tucked in behind Correy to preserve Cheetahs two-point cushion with the final heat to come.
There was a great atmosphere with the klaxon horns deafening as Crump got a flier to ensure Cheetahs maintained their lead at the death.
And with Hurry slipping in behind Lyons, it was all over bar the shouting. Oxford: Hurry 14+1, Crump 11, Schofield 6+3, Johnston 6+1, Staechmann 5+1, Wiltshire 5+1 47 pts.
Belle Vue: Lyons 12, Correy 12, Tesar 8, Screen 6, Klingberg 5, Carter 0 43 pts.
