A man has appeared in court charged with starting a £1m blaze at a mansion.

Anthony Lyons, 33, faced three charges of arson before Oxford magistrates.

Lyons was accused of arson with intent to recklessly endanger life after a blaze at a mock-Tudor mansion in Lady Place, Sutton Courtenay, in the early hours of Saturday.

He was also charged with starting another blaze on July 25, which caused hundreds of thousands pounds worth of damage to a stable block at Wheatfield, near Thame.

He was also charged with setting fire to a car in Sutton Courtenay High Street on Saturday morning.

Lyons, who lives in a property in the grounds of Lady Place, was unrepresented in court and requested bail from magistrates.

His request was refused and he was remanded in custody until Monday, September 7.
