A MAN has appeared in court accused of trying to rape a one-year-old girl.
Matthew Fletcher, 27, of no fixed address, faced Oxford magistrates at a special hearing.
He is charged with the attempted rape of the youngster, who is approaching her second birthday.
No application for bail was made during the hearing and Fletcher was remanded in custody.
The offence is alleged to have taken place in Banbury.
Fletcher's next court appearance will be on Monday, before Banbury magistrates.
The youngster cannot be named for legal reasons. The case is being handled by CID officers at Kidlington.
Det Sgt Paul Grayson, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a very sensitive case."
