A police station has become a temporary wine cellar after bottles worth more than £3,000 were seized.
Officers in Chipping Norton are looking after the 11 bottles of rare vintage wine, worth about £300 each, after a man tried to sell them to an off-licence.
An assistant at Threshers' branch in High Street turned down the deal and took the number of the man's car, then called the police.
The car was traced to a house in Chipping Norton where they recovered the bottles of vintage 1970 Chateau Latour, from the Medoc region of France.
Insp Roger Hepworth said: "The man has offered an explanation for being in possession of this wine.
"Meanwhile, it is under lock and key at the police station until further inquiries are made.
"We haven't got a cellar here, but we will ensure it is properly looked after," he added.
Wine expert Brendan Dubock, from SH Jones, in Banbury, said: "It's a great wine and a great vintage. There isn't much about."
