GRESHAM Oxford Cheetahs face a titanic battle in their bid to make the Elite Speedway League play-offs when they take on old adversaries Swindon Robins at the Stadium tonight (7.45pm).
Cheetahs are clinging to a last-ditch effort to make the play-offs, but they come up against a Swindon side hell bent on continuing their domination over their local rivals.
While the Oxford team could not believe the superb result the Robins pulled out of the hat at Wolverhampton on Monday to make things doubly difficult for Cheetahs, they are not giving up, by a long chalk.
Double German champion Todd Wiltshire said: "That was a hell of a result for them. However, we have come too far along the road to give up now and we will be out there with all guns blazing."
Swindon swept aside King's Lynn 56-34 last night, and are now seven points ahead of Cheetahs.
However, a win tonight for Cheetahs, who will be at full strength, in the Concord Lighting-sponsored meeting will reduce the gap to four points with a difficult run-in to come.
Tonight's task has not been made any easier, however, with Swindon bringing in British champion Chris Louis for Jimmy Nilsen and Scott Nicholls for Brian Karger.
Oxford: Crump, Johnston, Wiltshire, Hurry, Schofield, Staechmann.
Swindon: Louis, Jorgensen, Adams, Nicholls, Smith, Gjedde.
