A campaign has been launched in Oxford to support the flood victims of Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Welfare Association in the city is preparing to raise thousands of pounds for the millions of victims of the disaster.
Bangladesh is suffering its worst floods ever recorded with three quarters of the country under water and millions of people fleeing for their lives.
The total loss of human lives, livestock and other structural and economical damage remains uncounted as the flood waters continue to rise.
The Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheik Hasina has appealed to the world community for urgent help and now Oxford Samaritans are answering that call.
Restaurants and businesses across Oxford and surrounding areas are being asked to hold charity nights and collections will take place across the county. In 1992, the group raised £8,500 for flood victims in Bangladesh and are hoping people will be equally generous this year.
Association chairman Abdur Rouf said: "We will collect whatever people want to give us.
"We are trying to send people money directly if we can. We are appalled by their plight. Everyone here is constantly in touch with their friends and relatives and we want to do something to help them."
Anyone who wishes to help is asked to contact the Bangladesh Welfare Association (Oxford) on 01865 250792 or 01865 771709.
Donations can be made to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, A/C number 010 - 010 - 106 03018, Sunali Bank Main Branch, 29-33 Osborne Street, London E1 6TD.
