Hundreds of stunned listeners called BBC Thames Valley when they heard that presenter Sue McGarry had been found hanged.
The Oxford Mail revealed yesterday how Sue was found by her partner, fellow DJ Danny Cox, at their home near Witney on Wednesday.
Following the tragedy, Mr Cox has been given time off work by rival station Fox FM and his slot has been filled by Andy Green.
Sue, who met Danny more than ten years ago, is understood to have suffered a miscarriage in June and then received hospital treatment.
She had not been presenting her Thames Valley FM morning show since July.
Yesterday, the radio station was flooded with calls from listeners and former colleagues, devastated by news of her death.
BBC Thames Valley editor Phil Ashworth said: "A huge number of listeners phoned the station throughout the day to offer their sympathies. "The station has been overwhelmed by the number of people who have phoned up to say that they were saddened by the news.
"Listeners, fellow professionals and people Sue worked with in the past have all called in.
"Everyone is very shocked by what has happened and some of the listeners who phoned up were very upset. That's because Sue was one of the family to them."
