Police say a Reclaim the Streets protest planned for today (SAT) appears to have been cancelled.
A large-scale police operation had been planned by officers to deal with a large-scale demonstration anticipated at noon at Carfax Tower, Oxford.
But police now believe the event has been switched to Norwich.
Oxford police area commander Supt Cressida Dick said: "This is always a very difficult protest to police as the organisers will never speak to us directly but our intelligence suggests the event has been moved to Norwich.
"It is possible a few people may turn up in Oxford who have not heard about the cancellation.
"We will maintain a firm police presence and try to dissuade anyone who does come from having any sort of street party or demonstration.
"Our overriding aim is to keep everybody safe and to minimise disruption in a busy city centre on a Saturday afternoon."
