AN impeccable display by England international bowler Kathy Hawes, capped a wonderful weekend for the bowlers of Oxford City & County, as they won the Travelsphere National Club Championship as the leading women's club in England.
Hawes, who did not arrive back from the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur until two days before the finals at Leamington, played the singles rink for Oxford and remained unbeaten throughout, winning her quarter-final, semi-final and final matches by the margins 21-15, 21-2 and 21-13 respectively.
In the final , City & County defeated Carlton Conway (Notts), captained by former England stalwart, Brenda Atherton, the current EWBA president.
Despite a match score of 2-2, City & County won the overall title by a shot margin of 71-64.
