Grieving mum Mandy Jones, whose daughter Faye was killed in a horrific jet-ski accident, wants new coastal safety measures extended to inland waterways.
Her demand came after Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott announced plans to make jet-skis less dangerous.
Mrs Jones, of Benson, said: "I welcome any safety regulations which will prevent other families going through what we had to endure.
"We don't want to stop anyone's fun, but we do want to prevent accidents wherever possible.
"These new regulations should include leisure craft inland as well as on the coast - it is vital that these are part of the whole thing."
Mrs Jones's 17-year-old daughter Faye Grundy died as a result of an accident on Queenford Lake at Dorchester earlier this year.
A jet-ski on which she was a passenger collided with a boat and she was hit by the propellers.
Mr Prescott announced yesterday he would be bringing in a new code of practice next year through the new Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
He said about 12,000 sea or coastal incidents were reported every year - and a large number involved personal watercraft like jet-skis. He said: "Next year the MCA will introduce a code of safe practice.
"In the longer term we intend to update local authority powers for managing modern waterborne leisure activities and the environmental problems caused by coastal recreational activities in general."
An MCA spokesman said the new coastal regulations could later be extended to cover inland waters.
