A new pool for learner swimmers could be built - thanks to a £150,000 cash boost.
South Oxfordshire District Council has put forward the proposal after it was presented with new money for improvements at the Didcot Wave by leisure contractor Relaxion Group PLC.
Relaxion Group, which manages the Didcot Wave and Didcot Leisure Centre, in Mereland Road, for the council, pledged the cash as part of a renewed contract to run the centre until 2005. The council has proposed putting the money towards building an extension, to house a learner pool and extra changing facilities, among several ideas.
The chairman of South Oxfordshire District Council, Cllr Carole Heath-Whyte, who accepted a cheque on behalf of the council on Friday, said: "A learner pool is something that we all agree is very much needed at the Wave." She added that they might need to seek lottery funding to complete the project.
