OXFORD United winger Joey Beauchamp has admitted he may have been expecting too much after Fulham called off his proposed £1m transfer.
Beauchamp talked with the Division 2 big spenders yesterday and turned down the move because he was unable to agree personal terms.
The 27-year-old winger said Fulham had offered him a deal for this season and the next three years.
But he added: "The personal terms were not right for me. Maybe I was expecting too much.
"Their offer was less than I expected.
"I have just made my mind up really to carry on here."
United and Fulham had agreed a fee - believed to have been at least £1m, although it may have been less and could have involved a player-plus-cash deal with possibly either Neil Smith or Steve Haywood moving to the Manor.
Beauchamp, who still harbours ambitions of playing in the Premiership, added: "There is no guarantee they will come up, although I would say it is likely.
"Hopefully, things might change round here. If the backers come in, it might get better."
Beauchamp, who complained of being homesick when he joined West Ham for £1m four years ago before moving to Swindon without playing a game for the Hammers, added that that experience had no bearing on his decision to turn down Fulham.
"There is no problem in that area," he said. After rejecting Fulham's offer, he is now hoping to repeat last season's goalscoring form for United which saw him finish as the club's leading marksman with 19 goals.
Beauchamp, who has struck twice so far this season, has set his sights on adding to his tally in the two away games, against Bolton on Saturday and Bury next Tuesday.
"Hopefully I can score in the next two games," he said. "They would be good places to get a result."
And he believes he has fully restored his confidence in front of goal after a quiet start to the season.
"I started slowly and just felt like I needed a bit of confidence and a goal to start the ball rolling," he said.
"I have hit the back of the net three times now - although the last one was disallowed.
"Hopefully I can build my goals up. I was top scorer all the way last season and it is hard to repeat that.
"Last season was unbelievable for me really when I look back on it."
